CH.7
It was really sad to read the suffering they endured. Most gave up and quit but not Elie and his father they had each other to live for. It was a disgusting game the German soldiers played throwing a few pieces of bread to dozens of hungry men. It would be nice to think that that cruelty had been reserved for the past yet Elie witnessed a similar event years after his imprisonment. People finding sport in someone else's pain seems a recurring theme of human nature from Gladiators to Terrorist. Its a saddening thought to realize that in some ways society hasn't progressed very far.

I agree with you Priscilla, it was dehumanizing how others took their torture as a game. They didn't think how the Jews would feel because they were being thrown food like animals and moreover those people created chaos and more deaths. They shouldn't have thrown bread, that just made their situation worse.
ReplyDeleteMany people chose to write their posts on the throwing of the bread and how it was an inhumane and cruel act. I agree with that, but I would like to go further and contemplate WHY humans find amusement in the suffering of others. It is so hard for me to understand how someone could so easily ignore another living things pain. If there was a straightforward answer to this question, I think the world would have a lot less suffering.
