Running ch.6
Something that specifically stood out to me in this chapter was when the rabbi came looking for his son. The rabbi told the story like his son didn't know he fell behind but Elie observed the whole ordeal. He saw the son notice his father falling behind and then began to run forward. Elie had always stayed with his father even during the selection when he saved him. It shows how he was till putting someone else's survival at the same level of importance as his own.

It always strikes me how much Elie did not want to end up like this son. The author talks about other father and son pairs often throughout this book; his relationship with his father was so important to him. Elie mentions that it was important to him that he not tell the truth to the Rabbi about his son... do you think he would then believe that as long as his own father never knew some of the thoughts Elie had towards him that this lie would preserve the way the father saw Elie?
