Chapter 1
I found two things to be very shocking in this chapter. The first was the fact that no one in Sighet heeded the warnings of Moishe. They instead condemned him as a mad man and did not believe that the German army would not go any farther Budapest. I would assume that after hearing what Moishe had said, the town would be frantic. The second thing I found shocking was that it seemed the town was satisfied with being forced into ghettos. It is hard to tell whether the Jews were optimistic in this situation, had given up and accepted their fate without resistance, or were in denial of what was occurring.

Cielo, even in the worse of situations people always seem to believe that there will be a positive outcome and I think that's what the Jews thought. In the beginning when they didn't believe Moishe I think they thought something like that would never happen to them just like when you hear about a devastating situation, you never believe it will happen to you.
ReplyDeleteHello Cielo, the Jewish people of Sighet where at first satisfy with living in the ghettos as it made them feel politically empower as they had a form of autonomy through the appointed Jewish Council. They felt that segregation from the general public was a price worth paying if they are allow to have their own governmental apparatus.
