Zariah Brown- Section 1

What stood out most to me in this section was the close-knit relationships that the people of Maycomb have with one another. Only in a small, country town could people know so much about each other wihout it being considered odd. That helped me understand why Miss Caroline stood out so much and why her students lacked the respect they had for other adults for her. She didn't know the town, and the town only had assumptions about her, so everything she did was questioned as a result of the lack of familiarity that the town had with her.

    1. Yeah, it's as though she is trying to fit in and learn "the ways of Maycomb" while still preserving her own beliefs and teaching styles.

  2. Zariah--

It is interesting how tight-knit the town is. Everyone seems to know everyone's business and reputation. I think what this does for the story is to weave many characters of all types into one narrative thread.
