TKAM Section 1 - Cassandra

The first 3 chapters were pretty boring and the next 3 started to build up the story. I think that Scout has a very strong personality, and for a girl in the early 1900s she expresses herself freely and has no filter. I think she's gonna be one of my favorite characters. I also noticed that in the first chapter Lee mentions Jem breaking his arm but there's no explanation as to how and when he broke it. Scot first grade teacher seem to have a narrow point of view, unwilling to take in another examples. The way that she wants everything to be done in a certain way reminds me of a tyranny like system. The fact that shes new to Maycomb, has a different approach to teaching, and knows nothing about the town or its people, reminds me of someone foreign coming to introduce a new way of life to the people. I also noticed that Jem and Scout had a close relationship for siblings considering my siblings and I don’t exactly get along very well. I also noticed how in these chapters Scout is the only one who noticed and hears things at the Radley house when all the others don’t.

  1. Essentially. I read the first chapter and said I didn't like the book. However, once I re-read it and continued, I really liked the it. I feel that the Radley's will play a role later in the story.

  2. I also agree how people see different views about each other and how u may enjoy the story or not. I noticed a majority of those things too and grew to like it.

  3. The book didn't have such a slow start for me. By starting with the statement that Jem broke his arm, it had me hanging on to the words trying to figure out how...and now I'm on Ch 20
